Watch Superbowl Online

October 17, 2009 by Bull Schmit · Leave a Comment

watch_super_bowl_onlineIf you want to watch the Superbowl on online, then you have a very limited set of options. You see, the problem is that the National Football League has not adopted Major League Baseball’s plans for an online TV viewing option. If you just want to see the game on your computer, you can of course hook your cable box to a TV card, but that’s not really a realistic option if you want to watch the Superbowl online.

The issue is one of marketing rights. As every fan of the game knows, the superbowl is not just about the value of the game, it’s about the commercials. Customers spend massive amounts of money in order to put out ads during this one game, one day of the year and the network that receives the right to broadcast the game will not likely give that up in order to allow you to watch the Superbowl online. It really is in fact a bit of marketing genius on the part of the National Football League in that they instituted the Super Bowl and the limited number of games. It means that broadcasters will pay massive amounts of money for the right to broadcast the games and it means you, the fan will pay massive amounts of money for the right to watch the game in person. But don’t try watching the superbowl online, they say, because that would cut into our profits and we can’t have that.

Still, if you live in a foreign country and desperately must watch the superbowl online, there are a few limited options you can try to use in order to accomplish that feat. The simplest one is to use a device called a sling box. The Sling Box is a small box that sits on top of a cable box and broadcasts the cable box’s content onto the Internet, allowing you to watch the Superbowl online. Of course in order to do that, you’ll need a friend or relative to hook up a sling box to broadcast the game.

Another way you can watch the superbowl online is by using one of the free streaming TV services. Some of them, such as TVUNetworks and SopCast will have streaming feeds of the game as well. Basically, they work similarly to a Sling Box in that someone needs to be streaming it through their computer onto the net. The difference is, that you don’t need to be concerned with who is streaming the game. These programs use a peer to peer sharing service, similar to Bit Torrent to allow you and all your friends to see the game through your computer since at the same time you’re watching that amazing touchdown, you’re also simultaneously broadcasting it to someone else watching in a computer nearby.

Superbowl 47: Previsited

“He throws! It’s a long pass. It’s. . .oh what an amazing catch at the 30 yard line! He’s at the 20, the ten—he scores! Touchdown!” The excitement, the adrenaline pumping rush of watching your favorite team crush their opponent and the ultimate goal of getting a touchdown. This is what real men do. We’re football fans and we’re not afraid to say it: I’ve got tickets for Superbowl 47! Yeah, that’s right, in-your-face! Okay, you know I’m jealous. And not just because you get to see the hottest game in America. But also became you get to visit one of the coolest towns this great country has to offer. Houston may not be on the top ten list of vacation spots, but let me tell you, it’s not a nothing town. Not by a long shot. So, if you’re heading down to see Superbowl 46, then you should totally be checking out some of the things Houston has to offer.

“Houston, we have a problem.” The problem is that we can’t possibly see everything this amazing town has to offer. But you’d be kicking yourself if you headed for Superbowl 47 and didn’t visit the Houston Space Center. Unfortunately, due to security concerns you will not be allowed to see all of the Space Center operations. However, there are regular tram tours that will let you see the majority of the working facility. You can get up close and personal with a Saturn rocket or you can glance (or do more than glance) at the shuttle payload bays. The exhibits here will teach you all about the manned space program and what cool plans NASA has for the future (the ones that are not Top Secret anyway).

If you’re taking the kids to see Superbowl 47 (lucky kids! I wish my dad had taken me when I was their age), then you should totally consider visiting the Houston Children’s museum. This museum consistently ranks among the top ten attractions in the area on every list of things to do. The museum includes lots of exhibits which defy the traditional museum’s do not touch rules. In this case, it’s all please touch! And the exhibits are friendly for both kids and adults. As a matter of fact, you can actually build robots in the Invention Convention or take a turn at the news anchor’s desk. You can also “run” a small business, get elected as mayor in Kidtropolis and figure out what all the fuss is about with nanobots in the Matter Factory. There are also science exhibits which are very hands on in order to enthrall young visitors (before they head out to the stadium to see Superbowl 46 that is).

We’re football fans and we’re not afraid to say it: I’ve got tickets for Superbowl 45! Yeah, that’s right, in-your-face! Okay, you know I’m jealous. And not just because you get to see the hottest game in America. But also became you get to visit one of the coolest towns this great country has to offer. So, if you’re heading down to see Superbowl 45, then you should totally be checking out some of the things Arlington, TX has to offer.

If you’re a sports fan (and if you weren’t, you wouldn’t be heading down to Arlington for Superbowl 45, now would you?), then you’ve got to check out the Legends of the Game Baseball Museum and Learning Center . The museum is open year round and celebrates America’s national pastime, Baseball (hey, I love football too, but let’s not forget the classics, ‘k?) The museum is located at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. The displays here include bats, jerseys, trophies and other memorabilia from baseball’s greatest players, both from the early parts of the game and the more recent past. Since this is Texas, the exhibits do focus heavily on the Texas Rangers and their history. The learning center is really great for kids, since it uses baseball to teach all kinds of subjects, such as math and science, but you have to see if anything is going on for them at the time which is open to the public. And of course, since it’s located next to the Ranger’s permanent home, you can also get a tour of the ballpark while you’re there for Superbowl 45.

And for the thrill seeker in you, go to nearby Dallas (that is after all the official home of the Dallas Cowboys) and check out Zero Gravity Dallas. This amazing amusement park is designed for adults and is the world’s only “Thrill Amusement Park.” What that means is that they have five different rides for the extreme rush enthusiast. There is of course a bungee jump. There is also a ride which is pretty self explanatory called the Nothin’ But Net. Then there is Texas Blastoff which pays homage to Texas’ role in the space race. And of course you can also check out the Skycoaster and the Skyscraper. It’s the perfect place to get a rush before you get a rush at the main attraction, Superbowl 45!

Which Team has Appeared in the Most Super Bowls

October 16, 2009 by Bull Schmit · Leave a Comment

It’s football season again! Yes, if it’s October, the Yankees are in the playoffs like they always are (last year was an aberration), the Red Sox are saying wait ’till next year and the most important day in American sports is just a few months away. The Superbowl is coming! Okay, so it’s still to early to make guesses at who will be in the Superbowl this year, but at a time like this, it’s a great opportunity to look back over history and ask that all important question: which team has appeared in the most Superbowls? The answer? The Yankees of the football world, America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys have an enviable record indeed. Theirs is by far the most successful franchise in the National Football League. In just 49 years of existence, this team has had well over a .500 record for winning seasons and it seems they make the playoffs almost every single year. They’ve been to 8 Superbowls and won 5 of them. In fact, from 1966 to 1985, the Dallas Cowboys had an unbroken streak of 20 winning seasons.

However, if you’re going to ask the question, which team has appeared in the most Superbowls, then you also need to know who the second and third most winning teams are. In fact, while the Cowboys have been to more Superbowls, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won more of them than the Cowboys. The Steelers have been to 7 Superbowls and won 6 of them for the most Superbowl wins in history.

The Steelers are one of the oldest National Football League franchises in the game. They were founded in 1933 by a true sports fanatic named Art Rooney. He purchased the right to an NFL franchise for just $2,500 (I bet you wish you could buy a sports team for that kind of money). Originally known as the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Steelers made 8 decades of history is the Steel Capital of the United States and in the modern era of football, they of course won a total of 6 trophies.

We don’t know who is going to be playing in the Superbowl this season, but when you’re sitting around drinking beer, betting on the game and munching wings and nachos, just remember, when a friend asks the inevitable question, which team has appeared in the most Superbowls, you’ll know the answer to give him and then some.

If you’re a football fan (and if you weren’t, you wouldn’t be heading down to Indianapolis for Superbowl 46, now would you?), then you’ve got to check out the NCAA Hall of Champions. Dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of college football. The museum has been completed renovated and its’ two floors now offer the opportunity to explore and learn all about the sport and this amazing organization. You can enjoy galleries which have state of the art interactive exhibitions that will let you feel the passion of the student athletes who go out and play ball for your enjoyment every week of the season.

Superbowl 44: Previsited

We’re football fans and we’re not afraid to say it: I’ve got tickets for Superbowl 44! Yeah, that’s right, in-your-face! Okay, you know I’m jealous. And not just because you get to see the hottest game in America. But also became you get to visit one of the coolest towns this great country has to offer. So, if you’re heading down to see Superbowl 44, then you should totally be checking out some of the things Miami has to offer.

For example, no trip to watch Superbowl 44 would be complete without a stop in Miami Sequarium. The sequarium is located right in the heart of the tourist area, on the road between downtown Miami and Miami Beach. It’s an incredible stop where you can see an outdoor aquarium that’s only possible in Miami’s tropical climate. Make sure you allow yourself at least half a day there (Maybe you should really make it Superbowl week instead of just Superbowl 44 Sunday).

No man’s vacation would be complete either without a visit to the world famous Miami Everglades. With 1.5 million acres of swamps, saw-grass prairies and sub-tropical jungles, Everglades National Park is probably the most unusual public park in the United States that you’ll ever have the chance to see. The park is on the southern tip of Florida and boasts 14 rare and endangered species, including the American Crocodile, the Florida Panther and the West Indian Manatee. Parts of the park are closed off and are only available to those with a strong sense of adventure and serious hiking experience. But others are more family friendly and are at least places where you won’t get so lost you miss the Superbowl 44 experience which you came here to enjoy to begin with.

Whatever you do down in Miami, it is really a tropical paradise. You can enjoy the wonderful beaches, the girls, the dancing and the nightlife. Yes, you’re making the trip in order to see Superbowl 44 and I’m with you on that. It’s totally awesome and I’d love to come also (got a spare ticket?), but don’t forget about everything this amazing town has to offer. You’ll thank me later.
